@TheMG3D I miss the joy of being blindly excited when something cool looking was announced. Game announcements have turned into little more than a reminder that genai exists
@NamiReacts@CanvasPirate Adobe retroactively changed the terms of service without warning or opt in. There was an outrage. Terms of service flipping is no less morally abhorrent than scraping the open internet. Same with shutterstock, not a single user knew of genai as a means of content consumption.
@GameSpot Having artists polish a thieving machine turd for the sake of calling it human made is a new form of disconnect. That's still just a polished turd and now wasted artist skill.
@0xMaverick35 What about the zero-budget indie studios making a game 4 or more years ago? They didn't feel the need to partake in the mass theft of all music, art, literature, code, and internet content.
@PanacheDGames The key art? Why betray the talent and experience of those artists by using genai at all? Dragging your own names through the mud cannot be worth skipping actual concepting and greyboxing. After this why should anybody assume the writing, code, art and ideas aren't genai?
@DENGOJIN Fully believable. Most of it has very clear consistency and looks drawn, but the scale of each piece feels like it's a collage that's been scaled and layered then hallucinated over with genai. Still sets a reasonable assumption that all other Kingdom Hearts stuff will use genai
@oldfalsash@funnyToasty As of github quietly changing the terms of service, technically yes in that one instance. Takes more than the random code of github to build a functional llm capable of turning chat into code though. Arguing legality of genai is meaningless either way, law won't touch it
@Kartoffel251@funnyToasty Genai is a new form of consumption. Everybody could have guessed a person would in someway use their work, that's implied consent. Nobody was allowed to know about genai until it had taken everything, no option to consent or not. That's why everything was stolen silently
@oldfalsash@funnyToasty Except all content was created with the implied consent that it might be consumed in any known way. Genai scraping is a new form of consumption that nobody could have predicted and were not warned about. That's what makes it theft, that's why they stole silently.
@XayStationTV@TheLZtweets The silent majority is silent and affected by the vocal minority when that's all there is to hear. Why else would these studios even bother putting out explanations and promises?
@laraphobic 'or refined' Moral issues of using genai at all aside, having an artist polish a turd for the sake of saying it's human made doesn't make it human art, it's just a polished turd.
