The Maya saw Saturn’s rings a thousand years before Galileo?

Maya artifacts with “alien teachers” and flying machines stopped surprising anyone years ago. This one is different. It’s not a little man in a spacesuit. It’s a carved shell (or bone) that looks uncomfortably like a planet with rings.

A circle. Around it — stepped geometric forms and triangles that are easy to read as a ring system. In 1610 Galileo pointed his crude telescope at Saturn and saw only “ears.” He never understood they were rings. The Maya, if this carving is what some people claim, already knew.

Saturn’s rings cannot be seen from Earth with the naked eye. Not now, not then. So either the Maya had a telescope archaeologists somehow missed, or someone showed them a picture, or we are once again seeing exactly what we want to see.
