It's knowing what to search for.

Here's my style after making plenty of mistakes.

1. T-shirts:

Skip 100% polyester unless you're buying gym wear.

Instead, search:
• 100% Cotton
• Combed Cotton
• Heavyweight Cotton
• 240-300 GSM Cotton
• Premium Cotton
• Mercerized Cotton

The heavier the GSM, the thicker and more premium the shirt usually feels.

2. Jeans:

Denim Jeans
Temu is surprisingly good for denim if you know what to search.

Search:
• Denim Jeans
• Cotton Denim
• Raw Denim
• Selvedge Denim (if available)
• 98% Cotton + 2% Elastane
• 99% Cotton

Avoid jeans with high polyester content. The more cotton, the better they'll age and feel.

3. Body-hug clothing:

Search:
• Ribbed Knit
• Modal
• Viscose Blend
• Cotton-Spandex Blend

They hold their shape much better than cheap polyester.

4. Hoodies
Search:
• 400 GSM
• French Terry
• Cotton Fleece
• Heavyweight Hoodie

5. Chains
Search:
• 316L Stainless Steel
• Titanium Steel
• PVD Gold Plated
• Vacuum Plated

These are far more resistant to fading than ordinary fashion jewelry.

6. Earrings
Search:
• 925 Sterling Silver
• 316L Stainless Steel
• Hypoallergenic
• Moissanite (if you're buying stones)

7. Scarves
Search:
• Mulberry Silk
• Silk Blend
• Cashmere Blend
• Wool Blend
• Viscose

Avoid the shiny, thin polyester scarves if you're after a premium look.

8. Loafers
Search:
• Genuine Leather
• Cow Leather
• Full Grain Leather (rare but worth looking for)
• Rubber Outsole

9. Sneakers
Search:
• Rubber Outsole
• EVA Midsole
• Breathable Mesh
• Leather Upper
• Stitched Sole

Pictures lie a lot

The description usually tells the truth.

Here's how I shop:

1. Read the material composition before anything else.

2. Sort by Most Orders or Best Selling, not cheapest.

3. Only buy products with lots of reviews or pictures or even better when a Nigerian has purchased it before they always tell the truth.

4. Read the 1-star reviews first. They'll tell you what the seller won't.

5. Look at customer photos, not the product photos.

6. Check the weight of the product. Better quality clothing is often heavier.

7. Read the size chart. Don't assume your Nigerian size matches.

8. If the title has words like "luxury," "premium," or "designer" but the material is 100% polyester, not everything but still move on.

Your best friend isn't the product picture.

It's the material, the reviews, and the customer photos.

That's how you separate the gems from the junk.

You're probably buying a refurbished iPhone from that vendor, and you don't even know.

You can check by simply opening your Settings.

Go to: Settings → General → About → Model Number.

You'll see something like MQ3D3LL/A

That first letter tells you everything.

M = New.
Bought originally from an official Apple store.

F = Refurbished.
Repaired at a service center after a fault.

N = Replacement.
Apple swapped this out for someone at some point.

P = Personalized.
Someone ordered this with a custom engraving.

NOTE:
None of these is automatically bad, but you deserve to know what you're paying for.

If your model number starts with M or P, you're fine.

But if you see N (replacement) or F (refurbished), that's when you should be extra careful.

RULE 10 is the most underrated

1, DO NOT SAVE YOUR RESUME AS RESUME(1).pdf
Instead, save it as firstname_lastname_jobtitle.
It stands out to recruiters and also helps rank you with the ATS systems!

2, ALWAYS EXPORT AS PDF (unless the job posting says Word).
PDFs keep your formatting perfect on every device and screen. Word files can break when opened in different versions, instant rejection vibe.

3, TAILOR YOUR RESUME FOR EVERY SINGLE APPLICATION.
Copy and paste the exact keywords and phrases from the job description into your bullet points. ATS scans for matches, miss them and your resume goes straight to the trash folder.

4, KEEP IT TO ONE PAGE (if you have <10 years experience).
Recruiters spend an average of 7 seconds on the first scan. Two pages = they stop at page 1. Make every line count.

5, DITCH THE FANCY TEMPLATES, COLUMNS, AND GRAPHICS.
ATS hates tables, text boxes, icons, and weird fonts. Use a clean, one-column layout with standard fonts (Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman 10-12 pt). Simple wins.

6, START EVERY BULLET WITH A STRONG ACTION VERB.
“Led,” “Optimized,” “Generated,” “Increased,” “Launched.”
Never start with “Responsible for,” “Helped,” or “Assisted.” Action verbs make you sound like a boss, not a bystander.

7, QUANTIFY EVERY ACHIEVEMENT WITH NUMBERS.
“ Increased sales by 47%” beats “Helped increase sales” every single time.
No numbers? Use percentages, dollar amounts, or time saved. Recruiters love proof.

8, PUT YOUR CONTACT INFO AT THE VERY TOP (and make it clickable).
Name (huge), phone, professional email, LinkedIn URL, location (city + state only, no full address).
Make your LinkedIn URL custom (https://t.co/qW68q7jVJs) so it looks pro.

9, ADD A 3-LINE PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY AT THE TOP.
Tell them in 2 seconds who you are, what you do, and what you deliver. No objective statements from 2005 recruiters hate those.

10, PROOFREAD LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT (because it does).
Run it through Grammarly or any AI + read it out loud. One typo can set you back.

Bonus 11: Update your resume every 3-4 months even if you’re not job hunting.

it’s actually terrifying how much my brain has changed since i stopped being a bookworm. it’s not just about the attention span, though that’s definitely gone

You don't need a reception. Do a church wedding on a weekday and curate good and simple souvenirs with well packaged food, hand it over to those who made it to church and bid them farewell

In the evening, have a small circle get together, maybe an evening of worship with close family and friends - save N500k for reception venue

2. Hair and Makeup - cut that budget to max 100k. What are you wearing?

3&4 - Your decision to scrap a reception will save you from DJ, MC and N550k. Find a close pal to anchor the hangout

5. Cake - take communion and if you must have cake, N50k is actually fine for your small hangout

6. Sourvenirs - N300k. Anywhere it reaches we thank God, after all, years after the wedding nobody remembers if you did or not. I can't even remember the souvenirs that were done in my siblings weddings

7. Drinks - N250k 👍

8. Deco - N200k

9. If you scrap your reception, you will successfully be able to do catering conveniently for N750k

10. Videography and Photography - N500k. Please don't use iphone camera.😂 You need these pictures for life

11. Outfits - N500k should be enough please. What exactly are are the two of you wearing for N1.5M on a budget of 6M? There's nothing you're wearing for 1million naira that won't get outdated in time and on the grand schemes of things, nobody really cares
