Some Update:

We have talked with @tether, @circle, @global_dollar, and @FDLabsHQ since Dec. 2024 and we have traversed all possible technical routes and roadmaps. 

We would have hoped to launch stablecoin according to the #KRC20 standard as we believe (1) it is more “L1” native than other options and therefore (2) it could take better advantage of the fast, scalable, and decentralized nature of the network. However, this proposal didn’t trigger much enthusiastic response. We brought the acceptance of $KAS by global KasFam merchants as payment as a point of attention, though most of the relevant parties still feel it will take much longer plus extra efforts to review an unfamiliar standard of token to them (USDG and showed some *potential* interest in #KRC20 so far).

The other option is to run the stablecoin contract code on an EVM-compatible L2. There are two modes (1) native and (2) bridged. As an L2 and not Kaspa itself, none of the L2s can promise that it will host the full traffic and make itself equivalent to #Kaspa Network.

As a result, our prospective partners are prudential in launching native stablecoins on any of the L2s at the moment. For Tether, @SuiNetwork and @arbitrum only have bridged USDT seated and they seem to be way bigger than any of the current Kaspa L2s. For Circle, the bridged version comes first before migrating to a native one. @Aptos as just finished its migration from bridged USDC to native USDC on Jan 30, 2025, following the same path as @SuiNetwork and @zksync.

We have received their requirements for launch and we have been granted access to their sample code repositories including EVM contract codes and standard of bridge (between the native chain and the Kaspa L2 chain). It should also be noted that for a stablecoin player, launching native ones on a new chain usually means that a new type of liability is created, and the decentralized nature of Kaspa makes this a bit tricky as we are unsure who is the correspondence from the Kaspa side for such a relationship when it comes to native to L1 stablecoins. We are following the required bridged standard to make sure it can be migrated to native smoothly when our stablecoin partners feel it is the right time.

I am somewhat confident *unofficially* that we will bring SOME stablecoins online before Q2. Whichever solution we end up with, it is important to have some stablecoin on Kaspa so that at least (1) one may trade KRC20/STABLE instead of KRC20/KAS and no longer needs to cash out by selling $KAS and (2) it would no longer request the merchant to necessarily be a Kaspa believer to accept payment done on the Kaspa network.

We will keep the community informed of our progress from time to time. I have mentioned this before: deployment is the mere #bgin. The challenge is to advocate for the adoption of our new stablecoin to the market. We are analyzing some of the sports/art/performance sponsorship opportunities, but we always bear deeply in our mind that it is the community that will bring our lit-up torch to a prairie fire.
