1. Nipples have different types and can change. There are 3 main nipple types: protruding, flat, and inverted. They can also change with temperature, arousal, breastfeeding, age, or even just friction from clothes. And yes, they have tiny glands around them called Montgomery glands that lubricate and protect them.
2. They have 15-20 lobes, not just fat. Underneath, each breast is made of 15-20 milk-producing lobes, like slices of an orange. Those lobes are connected by ducts to the nipple. Fat just fills in around them, which is why density varies so much person to person.
3. Breasts are made of glandular tissue, ducts, fat, and connective tissue called "Cooperâs ligaments." Exercise can strengthen the chest muscles underneath and improve posture, but it wonât change the breast tissue itself. Thatâs why support and genetics matter more than workouts for shape.
4. They change size and texture throughout the month. Due to estrogen and progesterone, breast tissue swells, gets tender, or feels lumpier right before and during menstruation. Thatâs why a bra that fits perfectly one week can feel tight the next.
