One of my absolute favorite pieces of DeFi engineering right now: Mento's Trading Limits + Circuit Breakers Mento doesn't use real liquidity pools that can be drained.

1. It runs virtual AMMs straight against the Reserve, so the protocol itself is the counterparty.But the magic is the two-layer protection:Trading Limits = speed bumps
• L0: 5-minute inflow/outflow caps (super tight between oracle updates)
• L1: daily hard caps
• LG: lifetime global limits that pause the pair completely if cumulative flow gets insane (needs governance to restart)→ This stops whales from smashing the peg in one tx and gives arbitrage bots time to do their thing.

2.Circuit Breakers = emergency shutdown switch
When oracle reports go crazy (huge median delta on volatile pairs like CELO, or even tiny deviations on stable pairs like USDC), the BreakerBox instantly halts trading on that pair. 30–60 min cooldown, then auto-resumes if conditions normalize.

Result? Mento just shrugs at black swan events that have wrecked other stablecoin systems.
