it turns out that "read the code" has a different meaning for different people.

at one end of the spectrum it means "stop what you're doing and tread mud in an unfamiliar domain and read every keyword and symbol like you're a 5-year-old reading a book with your finger and then put in mental effort to understand what's happening".

at the other end of the spectrum it means "look at screen and pattern match in a domain you are deeply skilled at, the implementation will manifest itself as shapes".

now i understand why there is such a disconnect.

after working for other people for Many Years i’ve come to believe that it’s a type of self betrayal or a bet against myself.

when i was there people kept trying to unship message editing because it was "hard for engineering". like guys, your job is to make the best experience possible for the user, who fucking cares whats easier for you. i almost pulled my hair out having this argument 5 diff times
