I think $HYPE is the easiest trade across any timeframe.

The reason is simple.

On August 26, Aligned Quote Asset v2 (AQAv2) will be activated. That means:

~90% of the cost-adjusted reserve yield on every USDC deposited on the platform will start flowing to the Assistance Fund, which buys $HYPE on the open market and burns it.

➥ But why is this important?

@HyperliquidX’s buyback engine has one flaw: it runs entirely on trading fees. That worked beautifully, until HIP-3 arrived.

Builder-deployed markets were 2% of perp volume at the start of 2026. They’re now roughly half of it, and those builders keep up to 50% of the fees on the markets they deploy.

Gross protocol revenue by quarter:

- Q3 2025: $357M
- Q4 2025: $295M
- Q1 2026: $217M
- Q2 2026: $202M

Down 43% from the peak, even as open interest hit ~$11B (July 13) and 30-day perp volume reached $178B.

The revenue drop was then 'exacerbated' by AQAv1.

AQAv1 is a stablecoin implementation built exclusively for Hyperliquid, where the issuer shared 50% of the AQA rate in exchange for fee discounts and rebate perks. $USDH from @nativemarkets was the flagship example.

Simply put, AQAv1 cost Hyperliquid money to run:

The v1 perks were 20% lower taker fees and 50% better maker rebates on aligned pairs. Those discounts came out of the exact same fee pool that funds the Assistance Fund buyback. So AQAv1 was: give up trading revenue to gain stablecoin revenue.

This creates a dilemma: more users, more volume, less revenue. It looks good in the stats, but not for the protocols.

That is until @coinbase and @circle come into the play and AQAv2 sets in motion.

➥ How AQAv2 works in practice?

Flow:

USDC → Coinbase treasury → reserve yield → cost adjustment → ~90% to system interest address → Assistance Fund → market-buy $HYPE → burn

Cycles start on activation: accrual starts Aug 26, 2026; first payment Oct 3, 2026; then about every 30 days

Both deployers stake 500k HYPE each, slashable. If the system interest address has insufficient balance when payment is due, the treasury deployer's stake gets slashed at 2% per day.

Neither party can walk away without 6 months minimum notice, and the stake stays slashable for that entire window.

Equity analysts put the combined EBITDA hit to both companies at $60M to $80M annually.

They accepted that to keep USDC as the dominant quote asset on HL.

➥ The Number

AQAv2 puts the run rate between ~$135M and $200M+ per year, with the full breakdown captured in the infographic tables.

Meanwhile, by mid-2026 the Assistance Fund had already put more than $1.3B to work and effectively taken about 44.5M $HYPE out of circulation.

AQAv2 adds an additional, market-agnostic cashflow, roughly equivalent to an entire quarter of peak-cycle trading revenue every year, that is independent of trading volume.

Hyperliquid is about to start collecting rent from the largest stablecoin issuer in the industry. AQAv2 does not patch the hole HIP-3 opened in the bucket; it opens a second tap.
