The primary flashpoint was an 14-acre chunk of prime revenue department land located along the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (GMLR), specifically around Annabhau Sathe nagar. ​For years, land mafias rapidly built out structures while the state was looking away. ​To bypass local ground-level interference, the Mumbai Suburban Collector’s office deployed used historical satellite mapping to track the physical growth of the slums. By comparing images from 2011 to the present day, they proved that a massive wave of construction occurred post-2011. Over a single 24-hour window, a force of 400 government personnel and 200 heavy labourers swept the site. Supported by a massive fleet of JCBs, excavators, dumpers, and drone surveillance cameras, they completely flattened over 1,200 illegal structures. ​
To prevent the land from being re-occupied, the Public Works Department (PWD) immediately deployed teams behind the bulldozers to construct tin-sheet barricades by nightfall, transitioning into a permanent concrete compound wall within two weeks. Govt sources allege that local land mafias have intentionally built these colonies to settle and shield undocumented Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants.
State intelligence and local police highlighted that these dense, unregulated pockets had transformed into functional hubs for the illegal narcotics trade and cross-border black market network.​

Rammohun Roy the so called Sati reformer, hated the fact that his widowed mother Tarini Devi was a devout Hindu who contributed money for "idol worship" in Pujas. When he refused to pay his share from the family's land for contributions to Hindu ceremonies, his mother filed a case through his nephew, which Rammohun easily won due to his links with the British administrators. After winning the case against his mother, Rammohun took over all the property and kicked her out on the streets. His mother had to seek refuge in the temple of Jagannath Puri and died there in wretched conditions in 1822. When Roy's sister in law, Durga Devi also filed a case to recover back some money from family properties - Rammohun again ensured that his influence helped him win the case. He then forced his widowed sister-in-law out on the streets.

This is the man who is touted as the savior of widows - but himself ensured that the two widows in his own family were thrown out on the streets and forced to live in wretched poverty after taking over all their property - all in the name of his hatred against "idol worship".

At the same time, several CNC machines still had to run to meet delivery deadlines. To manage the situation, the management decided to cut down the use of ACs.

I watched @narendramodi ji’s Hyderabad speech very carefully. His appeal for economic self-reliance, sustainable living, and reduced import dependency was much needed, and people listen to him. But his govt and the @BJP4India state govts should lead by example. Here are a few of my asks from the govts.

1) Shift to online inaugurations of ALL projects. No city needs a massive VIP entourage and 30 police cars blocking traffic every 15 days because a minister has to come to inaugurate a bridge/road/tunnel/hospital. This is also non-essential travel. VIP entourages are going out of hand and that’s a waste of public money.

2) Most politicians, from all parties, spend huge amounts of money on lavish weddings. There should be a ceiling on that first. At least here @BJP4India can take the lead.

3) Prioritising Made-in-India and locally manufactured products is a very necessary ask, but again, should be started from the top. What stops @BJP4India politicians from wearing a made-in-India watch, carrying a made-in-India phone, wearing made-in-India textiles?

People listen to you @narendramodi because you usually practise what you preach, but what about the rest of your govt and the state BJP govts? When will they walk the talk?

First of all, Bandhani or bandhej is a millennia old Indian tie and dye craft technique that has been seen even in the Ajanta paintings. Bandhani is created knot by painstaking knot by artisans whose skill is passed down not in design schools but across generations. Every dot in a bandhani saree is a decision made by human fingers, a tiny act of devotion to craft. Every bandhani textile is unique. Even the word Bandana in English has come from Bandhani.

But Ralph Lauren bastardizes Bandhani with a cheap printed cotton wrap skirt, a machine approximation of centuries of handwork, listed blandly and prices it at ₹44,800, with not a word about India, not a word about the artisans whose ancestors built this language of cloth. Real hand done bandhani skirts in Bharat cost less than 5000 Rs!

Ralph Lauren stole the aesthetic and erased the ancestry, just like the British East India Company did! Absolutely shameful!
