2 cool things about the Azuki x SATOSHI NAKAMOTO hoodie:

1. it's a Physical Backed Token (PBT, EIP-5791), which means that owning this NFT will be proof that you own one of the 98 hoodies irl. this is because transfers require a signature from a physical chip that's embedded inside the hoodie.

decentralized onchain verification and flexing of offchain ownership, no third parties like stockx required

2. this NFT lives on both ethereum and bitcoin at the same time, a dual-chain NFT. ownership on eth, tied to immutable art on btc.

ordinal inscriptions took the world by storm due to how the inscribed content is stored onchain permanently and immutably, on the most OG chain, bitcoin. that's what makes these digital artifacts awesome.

that core concept kicked off a wave of interest around how to collect and trade these artifacts in a user-friendly way. as an early fan, i remember buying sats OTC last year on a google sheet praying that i wouldn't get rugged. trading has improved a ton since (marketplaces using PSBT), but the overall experience is still rough around the edges, with unpredictable + long tx times, mempool snipes, address/sat management, reliance on indexers for ownership, etc.

btc programmability is moving quickly (l2s, BIP420). at the same time, we already have another chain where many of these issues have been tackled- ethereum. secured by billions, with predictable tx times, a robust ecosystem with flashbots and 721-compatible protocols, with flexibility for creative runtime expressiveness (e.g. PBTs, 721A, DN404, SBTs) at the turing complete L1 layer.

so why not delegate programmability to the evm ecosystem, while keeping the art enshrined forever on btc? this NFT explores that combo, an alternate way of managing ownership of onchain btc art, where each eth token is linked to a single immovable satoshi describing its content through its tokenUri, through a urn scheme that btc-external systems can use to directly reference content inscribed on sats. similar to how blockchains can be modular with separate execution and DA, this NFT’s content lives on bitcoin.

a hoodie collab dedicated to satoshi felt like the right place to have fun with this. like anything else, there are tradeoffs. eth devs may prefer ipfs if the btc onchain art aspect doesn’t mean much to them. btc collectors may prefer the existing way sats are traded because it’s more btc-pure. different methods can coexist, this is just a different way of trading bitcoin-inscribed art with less friction. embrace trying new things. shoutout @MagicEden for working with us to make this possible!
