A few weeks post @shefiorg Cohort 13 completed, and Iโm missing the first dictation, camaraderie, and engagement! Luckily I still have access to all of the live calls, community platforms, and extra educational videos as I continue to depend my Web3 knowledge. So grateful for the experience and wonderful people Iโve met!!
Already wrapping up SheFi week 6 - thank you to @shefiorg and @maggielove_ for such an informative and engaging course! We've covered a lot, but here are my main takeaways so far..
Decentralization in finance is revolutionary because it diffuses control, increases transparency while allowing for anonymity, and gives autonomy to users.
While defi's distribution of power across the blockchain results in greater security due to an increased resistance to targeted attacks, it's up to each user to protect their assets by *never sharing their private key*!
The blockchain trilemma refers to the challenge of achieving security, scalability, and decentralization - one of these elements will have to be sacrificed for any network.
For Ethereum, scalability is sacrificed to protect security and decentralization. This resulted in high fees and long transaction wait times, so Ethereum uses Layer 2 technology to offload transactions before verifying new blocks and adding them back onto Ethereum.
Proof of stake is an alternative to proof of work that allows users to stake their tokens to validate transactions and earn passive income in the process.
Stablecoins were created in an effort to mitigate some of the volatility seen in cryptocurrency. They peg the value of the coin to an asset such as USD or gold to maintain a stable price.
Overall, I've learned a lot about how and why to get on the block chain, as well as some of the challenges cryptocurrency faces when considering mass adoption and use in everyday scenarios. I've also learned about many of the solutions Web3 innovators have developed to solve these problems, and I am more excited than ever to be a part of this industry!
