I wonder if instead of “profit” we said “breathing space” the chancellor would have made different decisions about leaning on employer NICs to get the tax she wants. Does Govt think “profit” = “extra fat pay for bosses”, rather than as “ability to plan for next year”?
@ShakeyStephens@PeaChannon@bmay@BraidseaQuine@Benrrowland Trying to clarify succinctly: NICs rises do not affect what many small business pay their apprentices per se, but it makes their whole business model precarious, so they are cutting employees not yet covering their own costs, like apprentices. Varies hugely by sector btw.

🥇 In its first full inspection since the training arm was launched in 2020, Ofsted inspectors found apprentices studying 'very well-planned and taught' curriculums taught by 'highly qualified' experts.

NEW DfE accounts suggest Government raised c£829m more from the apprenticeship levy than it spent on apprenticeships in 23-24. Levy raising more as nominal wages rise, DfE apprenticeship budget not raised in line, limiting numbers & funding rates. H/t @mbcorney

@bphillipsonMP The exciting thing is that a series of small changes, developed with key employer bodies and providers, can turbo charge our skills provision for employers and learners. Skills England doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel, just work with people at the frontline who know.
Fab to see @DarrenLeeAvery getting an opportunity to share with @JamesAsser and @Jacqui_Smith1 what apprenticeships have helped @Ldn_Ambulance achieve with their critically important workforce. Bit more flex on Skills Bootcamps could help fill even more technical roles too though
