The Kelliher Lab had our first outing today! We celebrated our first eight months of work, largely driven by rockstar postdoc Carly’s efforts setting up the lab while I took a brief sabbatical to work on a eukaryotic genetics project (see photo for results).
Special thanks also to @RachelJWhitaker, @MicroPhysIL, and others at UIUC who gave me my start in academic research and who ignited in me a lifelong appreciation for and admiration of microbes. And a huge shoutout to the @LeadingEdgeSymp community for the resources and support!!
Thrilled to announce that the @KelliherLab will be opening in @MCWmicrobiology in January! 🎉 We will study how bacteria respond to stress during infection, with a particular interest in how pathogens adapt to, and how the host imposes, bacterial cell wall stress in the cytosol.
I have been dreaming of, planning for, and working towards this goal for over a decade, and I’m so grateful for all those who’ve helped me achieve it. First, thanks to JD @SauerLab who has been the BEST postdoc mentor and others in @MMI who’ve made this a great place to train!

Exciting times for us!
The @OhainleLab is recruiting a research technician to join us here at UC Berkeley MCB.
This paper is insane 🤯 for a few reasons. The first being they experimentally evolved a yeast into a multicellular organism. The second is that the review process took longer than the evolution process 🤦🏻♂️
