At the Bible Springs Integrated Culling Ground, one scene is particularly heartbreaking. A foal, estimated to be only a month old, separated from its family, desperately runs towards the traps while other horses leap over burlap fences to escape. At a temporary shelter, the foal lies alone in its enclosure, occasionally calling for its lost family. It has been transferred to foster homes and will never be reunited with its mother.
At the Pearsons/East Douglas Culling Ground, herds are relentlessly chased through thick dust, wildfire smoke, and scorching heat. Observers have witnessed helicopters driving exhausted horses across the wilderness, with foals struggling to keep up, raising serious concerns about their safety and well-being.
These are not just numbers in the culling reports. Families are forcibly separated, frightened foals are left behind, and they are forcibly brought back with ropes, pushing wild horses to their limits—all within a system that constantly disappoints them.
Wild horses deserve humane and scientific management to protect their freedom, maintain their families, and prevent such tragedies from happening
