The Gaza media office has spent three years telling the world that Israel killed 262 journalists. @piersmorgan repeated that lie dozens of times. Tucker repeated that lie. Hundreds of podcasters and influencers repeated that lie. @mehdirhasan repeated that lie more than anyone.

Tonight the IDF put out the photographs of 170 of the people inside that count and said they belonged to terror groups. Knock those off and the number the street has been marching with is already cut by two thirds, before anyone has even argued about the rest. TWO THIRDS.

This isn’t a new trick for Hamas which runs the list. A man with a camera is entered as a journalist, and the death is billed to the press.

The Committee to Protect Journalists, which Western newsrooms treat as the referee, has already had to strip 27 names off its own tally the first time Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad published the obituaries and called them fighters.

Its Gaza figure now sits around 189, and that was before this release. A press card and a rifle in the same week is not a journalist caught in crossfire. It’s a fighter with a byline.

One hundred and seventy is the floor, not the ceiling. The IDF is saying these 170 were members. It showed evidence. Images of each one flaunting Hamas attire and holding weapons when the camera props weren’t rolling. It’s not saying the other 90 were reporters from the Telegraph. Until someone produces the work, the masthead, and a life that was not a Hamas unit, the claim of a war on journalists is a claim Hamas wrote and the West repeated.
