Something is a hate incident if the victim or anyone else thinks it was motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a personal characteristic such as disability, race, religion, gender identity, sub-culture or sexual orientation. #WeStandTogether@NationalHCAW@stophateuk
If you believe something is a hate incident it should be recorded as such by the person you are reporting it to. Anyone can be the victim of a hate incident; even if you have been targeted for a perceived and not an actual personal characteristic. #NoPlaceForHate@NationalHCAW
When hate incidents become criminal offences they are known as hate crimes. Criminal offence = something which breaks the law of the land. Hate Crime classification = tougher sentencing can be imposed under the Criminal Justice Act 2003. #NoPlaceForHate@NationalHCAW @CorbyPolice
Some examples of hate crime; assault, criminal damage, harassment, murder, sexual assault, theft, fraud, burglary, hate mail (Malicious Communications Act 1988) and causing harassment, alarm or distress (Public Order Act 1986). #NoPlaceForHate@NationalHCAW @CorbyPolice
#NHCAW gives us the opportunity to come together to create a #SafePlaceForAll and share the message that there’s #NoPlaceForHate in Northamptonshire. Today we shared some of the work we’ve done over the past year to tackle hate crime & support victims. https://t.co/huti85Odl6
It's important to report all hate incidents experienced via 📞101 or online reporting (always call 999 in an emergency) to help the police get the full picture enabling action to be taken https://t.co/fjwDXmiL1a @NorthantsPolice @CorbyPolice #SafePlaceForAll@NationalHCAW
