@lofITechie They need to divide the region in sectors according to population and then plan accordingly, each of them should have fixed number of schools, hospitals, dedicated green spaces, roads should be standardized, SEZs should be set up wherever possible.Above all, listen to the people

🌊 SHOULD WEST BENGAL HAVE A STRICT “PUKUR CONSERVATION & RESTORATION POLICY”?

BECAUSE BENGAL’S PUKURS ARE NOT JUST WATERBODIES THEY ARE PART OF ITS CULTURE, MEMORY & URBAN ECOLOGY

Almost every locality in Bengal once had:
📍a pukur
📍a neighbourhood pond
📍community gathering spaces
📍childhood memories attached to them

But over the years, many have reportedly:
• been encroached upon
• filled with garbage
• polluted
• illegally reclaimed
• or converted into construction land

And beyond culture, these ponds actually matter for:
🌧️ rainwater absorption
💧 groundwater recharge
🌡️ urban cooling
🐟 local biodiversity
🏙️ flood mitigation

Should there now be:
• mandatory geo-tagging of ponds?
• strict anti-encroachment protection?
• restoration drives?
• community maintenance systems?
• fines for illegal filling of waterbodies?

Feels like one of the most underrated urban & environmental discussions Bengal needs right now
