🧵We captured 42 million #GoogleDiscover feed cards across hundreds of devices over 3 months.
Here's what nobody has measured before: Discover doesn't run on one algorithm. It runs on 20+ internal pipelines — each with a different role, different reach, and different rules.

🆕More news on Google's Pages profiles for Publisher.
Threads have appeared in the list of social networks.
We saw the live rollout today.
They started on some sports pages like the NBA and NFL.
Now we see them on @glenngabe (/g/11f0z78b2j) and Hardware Premium.
We can see it visually on the NFL page, but the tab doesn't display any articles yet.
On the other profiles, it's visible in the code but not yet activated in the UI.
Example: Examples of Google profiles mapped to Threads handles:
Athletico Paranaense
MID: /m/019mgv
Threads: @athleticoparanaense
Type: Brazilian football
Atlanta Hawks
MID: /m/0jm64

A small update to the test: the header is missing on the Discover cards, and the "Follow" button has disappeared.
You can see that the "Follow" button to follow a publisher is located in the hamburger menu.

🆕Google Discover: profile(.)google(.)com profiles are starting to take on a new form.
Until now, the Discover / publisher profiles we monitored at @1492_Vision mainly used the classic format:
profile(.)google(.)com/cp/<token>
This token usually points to an entity, often through a Knowledge Graph MID such as /g/... or /m/..., but it can also be associated with domains or social/profile-based references.
But a new layer seems to be emerging:
profile(.)google(.)com/@handle
For example:
profile(.)google(.)com/@evrimagaci
And the interesting part is that this does not look like a simple cosmetic redirect.
In several cases, the @handle URL resolves to the same underlying profile(.)google(.)com/cp/... profile, but with a much more readable and recognizable format — very similar to what we already see on YouTube with @channel URLs.
We scanned a corpus of 113,701 Google profile URLs.
As of May 26, 2026, I confirmed 11 active handle-based profile URLs.
Some examples:
@evrimagaci — Tree of Evolution — 7.95M followers
@ryanhallyall — Ryan Hall, Y’all — 7.4M
@moribyan — Hajar Larbah — 9.4M
@CleoAbram — Cleo Abram — 13.0M
@KreekCraft — KreekCraft — 24.2M
@GoogleEarth — Google Earth — 1.4M
@NewsfromGoogle — News from Google — 130K
@AddyOsmani — Addy Osmani — 418.8K
A few observations:
The majority of the detected profiles are YouTube creators.
Google is also using this system for its own entities, such as @GoogleEarth and @NewsfromGoogle.
Not all profiles appear to be directly tied to YouTube. For example, @AddyOsmani and @NewsfromGoogle suggest that this handle system may be broader than YouTube itself — potentially closer to a Google-wide identity layer.
Another interesting point: no major traditional news publisher tested in this corpus had an active handle-based URL at this stage.

Here's a new Google profile: https://t.co/BvCByu9CBC
With its handle directly via @ryanhallyall
Both are YouTube creators with a large audience, so it's possible the URLs are linked to their YouTube handles.

🆕New to the Google app, Google is preparing a special Discover feed for videos via `googleapp_discover_video_mode_feed`. This is similar to what they did previously for images with the "Images" tab at the bottom of the navigation.
Will they perhaps separate videos from articles in the Discover feed?

One curiosity that could hint at a fresh feature♨️: let publishers pick their nickname... this Turkish scientific website gets its profile /cp/... redirect to /@ evrimagaci, handle displayed on the profile as well!
