The proposed Mekedatu Dam will submerge more than 5,000 hectares of protected area in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to 4 threatened species.Mekedatu is also home to the hump-backed mahseer listed as ‘critically endangered’ in the IUCN Red List.
