The Execution of Cyril Lucaris: A Patriarch Thrown Into the Sea
#OTD June 27, 1638, Cyril Lucaris (Cyril Lukaris), one of the most controversial religious leaders of the 17th century, was executed by order of the Ottoman authorities. Having served as Patriarch of Alexandria and later as Patriarch of Constantinople, Lucaris became caught in the fierce religious struggles between Eastern Orthodoxy, Catholicism, and Protestant reform movements.
Lucaris supported certain reforms and maintained contacts with Protestant thinkers, especially Calvinists, which brought him powerful enemies. His opponents accused him of spreading heretical ideas and using his position to influence the Orthodox Church in controversial ways. His repeated conflicts with rival church leaders and political factions eventually led to his downfall.
After being arrested and deposed, Lucaris was taken by Ottoman officials and strangled on June 27, 1638. According to accounts of his death, his body was then thrown into the Bosporus Sea. His followers later recovered his remains and gave him a proper burial.
His execution remains a dramatic example of the religious and political tensions of the Ottoman era, and Cyril Lucaris continues to be remembered as a complex figure—viewed by some as a reform-minded patriarch and by others as a deeply divisive leader.

I don't watch TBN but I understand it only promoted Darbyist dispensationalism until now. Happy to see orthodox ("partial") preterism being platformed! I pray the Holy Spirit leads multitudes of viewers to learn what the Bible says about eschatology.

Sad to say my little church that's been struggling for years is taking a hyper-woke turn. I don't know where to go. The local LCMS church is solid, but I'm Reformed and can't agree with their view of the sacraments--I'm excluded from their eucharist when I attend.
We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living. Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.

On that day “HOLY TO THE LORD” will be engraved on the bells of the horses. And the pots in the house of the Lord will be as the basins before the altar.
