The best way to explain media illiteracy is: people don't engage with art anymore, they strictly consume it. Nobody wants to read into a character's complexity, if someone didn't like the ending to a show suddenly the entire series was terrible; you want to look, not connect.

There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others.
