Eli Lilly released retatrutide Phase 3 data yesterday. 28% weight loss in 80 weeks. The most powerful obesity drug that’s ever been tested.
And today the cancer signal drops.
12,112 patients. Seven tumor types. GLP-1 users had half the lung cancer metastasis rate (10% vs 22%). Breast cancer: 43% cut. Colon cancer five-year mortality in a separate study: 15.5% vs 37.1%.
Cancer joins a list that already includes heart disease (SELECT, 20% MACE reduction), kidney failure (FLOW, 24% slower decline), sleep apnea (SURMOUNT-OSA, FDA-approved), addiction (BMJ, 600K veterans, 18-25% reduction across substances), and liver disease (86% fat clearance).
Tumors express GLP-1 receptors. Activate them and NF-kB drops, apoptosis rises. The drug isn’t just shrinking fat. It’s talking directly to the cancer.
One drug class. Designed for blood sugar. The biology keeps finding uses the designers didn’t predict.
Retatrutide phase 3 obesity trial just came out and the results are genuinely insane:
- 28.3% bodyweight lost on 12mg over 80 weeks
- 70.3 pounds on avg. or 31.9 kg
- 45.3% of patients hit 30%+ weight loss (this is bariatric surgery territory)
- 30.3% weight loss (85 lbs) at 104 weeks in higher-BMI patients
- 65.3% of 12mg patients dropped below the obesity BMI threshold
- 19% loss on 4mg over 80 weeks (47.2 lbs) with fewer dropouts than placebo (4.1% vs 4.9%)
- significant drops in blood pressure, triglycerides, non-HDL cholesterol, waist circumference, and hsCRP
- no cardiac or liver signals
Retatrutide is going to completely overshadow tirzepatide and semaglutide, and take the throne as the best-selling drug of all time.
it’s a bit ridiculous to say “the time you spend scrolling could be spent building a business/writing a novel/reading the classics”. sometimes that’s true but usually scrolling happens as a result of cognitive fatigue, and the idea that you can just “swap in” another intellectually demanding task means you’re treating your body/mind as a machine
a better approach would be “the time you spend scrolling could be spent taking a stroll/napping/staring out the window/having a meandering conversation with a friend”. that’s both more palatable and probably what we’re actually craving when we reach for our phone: a brief break from the demands of life, and a time to let our mind relax
One thing that I always found fascinating about Italy is how diverse and evenly distributed their last names are. 🇮🇹
Only 0.67% of Italians share the top 10 surnames!
An interesting consequence of Italy being historically fragmented with many different dialects being spoken.
Birthright citizenship is so fucking stupid that we have midwit scam artists from China to Turkey sending pregnant women to American hospitals to exploit it.
And Americans are so fucking stupid that they’re pinning the outcome on 9 old lawyers ‘interpreting’ 150 yr old words.
The anti GLP-1 people are the saddest new group to emerge. You can just see how badly they *want* to position themselves as wise, moral or virtuous for being against it... but there's just nothing in their corner. All the users I know are as happy with it as can be.
🚨BREAKING: It has just been revealed that 320,000 children, nearly 9% of all U.S. births, were born to unauthorized or temporary migrant mothers.
Holy smokes...
