Less than a week to closest approach at Ultima now! If all went as planned @NewHorizons2015 should have begun operating on its flyby program at 7 am this morning US Eastern Time. We'll get word back from the Kuiper Belt on how that went by this afternoon. More on that soon. 1/2

IT'S HAPPENING! New Horizons has begun sending hazard search images of the space near Ultima Thule. Thru Dec 16th we will be making more & more detailed searches for hazardous moons/rings. If flying past Ultima at our planned 3,500 km range is dangerous, we'll flyby at 10,000 km.
