I have pleaded NOT GUILTY to all three charges of allegedly inciting racial disharmony.

Thankfully, NO bail conditions have been imposed on me. My next case review hearing is 25 January 2027.

TODAY, FREE SPEECH ON TRIAL

Today at 9am, I will appear before the Manukau District Court facing three charges of allegedly inciting racial disharmony.

I intend to find out exactly what the Police are accusing me of.

LET ME BE CLEAR.

I have challenged RELIGION. NOT RACE.

I have spoken about the persecution of Christians, the human rights abuses of political leaders (such as Modi), and foreign religions that I fundamentally disagree with.

RACIAL DISHARMONY? NO!

At a stretch, you could argue religious disharmony.

But I am a Christian preacher. Challenging religious beliefs is part of my calling. I believe New Zealand was founded on Christian principles, and I will not apologise for defending them.

DISAGREEMENT IS NOT RACISM.

People may dislike what I say. They may strongly disagree. They may even be offended.

BUT BEING OFFENDED DOES NOT MAKE SOMETHING A CRIME!

I believe these charges are unjustified and should be thrown out.

And if the Police are genuinely concerned about racial division in New Zealand, perhaps they should take a closer look at the politicians in Parliament who have divided this nation.

BUT THIS CASE IS BIGGER THAN ME.

This is about the fundamental freedoms of EVERY New Zealander.

The freedom to speak.
The freedom to question.
The freedom to challenge.

AND THE FREEDOM TO DISAGREE WITHOUT FEAR OF PROSECUTION.

This case could become a defining moment for free speech in New Zealand.

I recognise the responsibility that now rests upon me.

I am not standing here simply to defend myself.

I am not simply defending myself. I am standing for a principle that belongs to every Kiwi, regardless of race, religion or political belief.

FREE SPEECH DOES NOT BELONG TO THE GOVERNMENT.
IT DOES NOT BELONG TO THE POLICE.
IT BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE.

We must never become a nation where ordinary Kiwis are afraid to speak their minds because they fear being dragged before the courts.

I will defend my position firmly, through the proper legal process.

I will not be intimidated into silence.

And I will continue to speak up for the freedoms of all New Zealanders.

Speaking up for clients is what lawyers are paid to do, and the same Law Society committee has censured two of them for it.

Free Speech Union Chair Stephen Franks @franks_lawyer was censured for sending a letter to 20 health practitioners on a client’s behalf. In February, the independent Legal Complaints Review Officer threw the finding out. The reviewer questioned the complainants’ use of the disciplinary system “as a forum for advancing their opposition” to the client’s views.

Tauranga lawyer Kirsten Murfitt @MurfittTauranga was censured for posting her own client’s open letter on social media, which the committee called “disrespectful and discourteous”. The same reviewer overturned that finding too, saying the allegations “should never have been made in the disciplinary forum”. Winning still left her around $30,000 out of pocket.

When an independent reviewer has to overturn the same committee twice in one year, something needs to change.
