Just arrived to Cairo amid reports that a school and a hospital have come under attack in Gaza today.
Hundreds of people have been killed.
Gaza is on its knees.
The health, water and sanitation systems are collapsing.
People are being stripped of their dignity.
The world cannot afford the high cost of inaction in Sudan.
~UN High Commissioner for Refugees @FilippoGrandi outlines what measures must be taken to intensify the humanitarian response. #UNGA
Six long years since one of the fastest refugee exoduses in recent history - #Rohingya from #Myanmar, hosted generously by #Bangladesh, but these 1 million stateless people want what we all want - a home.
We will not forget them or their host communities.
Nearly 1M Rohingya refugees in 🇧🇩 continue to rely entirely on humanitarian assistance.
This means funding shortfall will have dire consequences.
Now is the time for robust & sustained international support for the #RohingyaResponse

This week marks 6 years since of one of the largest exoduses of our time - over 700,000 Rohingya women, men and children from Myanmar fled to Bangladesh, where they joined hundreds of thousands of others who had previously sought refuge in the country.

While @Banyana_Banyana has made history at the #FIFAWWC, football has brought refugees and locals together back home in South Africa.

100 days of crisis in Sudan.
100 days of suffering.
100 days of families separated.
100 days of forced displacement.
📣 100 days of crisis is 100 days too long.
Never thought we’d see this day - Sudan has now seen over 100 days of conflict.
We are doing everything possible to provide lifesaving aid to newly displaced in Sudan & refugees in neighboring countries.
But the people of Sudan need peace … now.
@GillianTriggs UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNHCR Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, on refugee and migrant rights.
“Refugees have the right to seek asylum and to international protection from persecution and violence,” she said.

The number of people forced to flee has risen again. They are now more than 110 million worldwide.
War, violence, persecution, discrimination — and increasingly, climate change, often linked to conflict — all cause displacement.
A world with too many crises, too few solutions.
Lives shattered. Hopes dashed. Our #GlobalTrends Report sheds a dark light on the current state of 🌍 displacement that can only be reversed with political will & solidarity. Conflicts need to end so that people can stay & return home voluntarily & safely. https://t.co/oS9dptGkQw
📌 UNHCR’s @KellyTClements calls for increased support for refugees in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh — a country that has hosted more than 1 million Rohingya refugees for many years.
Bangladesh is one of the most climate impacted countries in the world - #CycloneMocha resulted in widespread damage to homes &infrastructure - $42 M needed to build back better. Lives were spared, thanks to superb disaster preparedness in #Rohingya camps & host communities.
Mixed emotions after day w/#Rohingya refugees, hosts & partners - while good work to link @RohingyaResp w/ private sector expertise, site & shelter solutions not happening fast enough w/ precarious living for most. Durable housing, livelihoods needed for more. Food cuts dire.
I’m back in 🇧🇩 where 1 million #Rohingya refugees are hosted, most for 5+ yrs in one of the poorest but most beautiful parts of #Bangladesh. Futures are on hold, their stories no longer in headlines, but needs remain urgent & a sustainable approach necessary - we won’t walk away.
