🚨Singaporean Teen Masterminds $230M Bitcoin Heist, Arrested by FBI 💰👇
In August 2024, 20-year-old Singaporean national Malone Lam orchestrated a sophisticated scheme resulting in the theft of over $230 million in Bitcoin. Lam, along with accomplice Jeandiel Serrano, employed social engineering tactics by impersonating technical support staff from Google and the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange. They convinced a victim from Washington, D.C., to grant them remote access to his computer, enabling the transfer of approximately 4,100 Bitcoins into their control.
Following the heist, Lam and Serrano laundered the stolen funds through various channels, including cryptocurrency mixing services and decentralized exchanges, to obscure the origin of the assets. They then indulged in extravagant purchases such as luxury vehicles, high-end watches, and lavish nights out. Their conspicuous spending patterns eventually drew the attention of law enforcement agencies.
In mid-September 2024, the FBI arrested Lam in Miami. Both Lam and Serrano were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering, offenses that carry potential sentences
