The DEP Forest Fire Service today released a report on the 2025 wildfire season that saw substantial increases in the number of wildfires and acreage burned statewide, and reminds residents and visitors to New Jersey of the important role they have in protecting their communities and reducing wildfire risk.

The report is the first of what will become an annual analysis by the Forest Fire Service looking back at the previous year’s wildfire metrics in the context of wildfire trends, causes and response efforts, while helping New Jerseyans better understand the need for wildfire vigilance to help protect lives and property.

BREAKING: Essex County Prosecutor's Office Sgt. Darryl Brown, 43, of Sparta Township has been charged with third-degree theft after allegedly stealing a photojournalist's $10K camera bag at Delaney Hall ICE facility on May 30, per NJ Attorney General Jennifer Davenport.

The journalist was hospitalized for injuries sustained at the scene. An Apple AirTag in the bag led investigators to Brown's home. A June 3 search warrant recovered multiple items, with some still labeled with the victim's name and phone number.

Brown has been suspended without pay, per Essex County Prosecutor.

Third-degree theft carries 3–5 years and up to $15K in fines. Charges are accusations; Brown is presumed innocent

I have sat face to face with detainees inside Delaney—high schoolers, elderly folks, a pregnant woman, people detained while waiting for court hearings.

They told us the horrible conditions they face: lack of medical care, moldy food. Delaney Hall needs to be shut down.
