@GeneTherapyG26 @DrDaveT We chose do look at avian flu as are group consits of both biomed and zoology studants so we wanted to do a project that interlinked the two courses. so we decided that avian flu would be a good choice to look at.

@Dyobyrag1 @DrDaveT Animal welfare is a large concern when looking at flu outbreaks. With birds being kept indoors, there can be issues with over crowding as well as enclosures not being large enough to suit birds needs.

@KarasiovaaXo @DrDaveT Infected birds develop swollen heads and blue colouration of the comb and wattles further symptoms would be some you would only notice as the owner of an infected bird such as, lack of appetite, respiratory distress, diarrhoea and significant drop in egg production.

@Dyobyrag1 @DrDaveT It is required by law that any birds within an infected premise, as a result from what i could find. an estimated 1.7 million birds have been culled as of Dec 2021. The econimic cost of this is expected to be around about £50 Million.

@Dyobyrag1 @DrDaveT These anti virus drugs zanamivir and oseltamivir, bind to the active site on the viral neuraminidase, blocking its activity. Meaning virus particles can’t exit the cells as easily, and they tend to clump and not disperse. 1/2

@Dyobyrag1 @DrDaveT Nice question, through our research we’ve not came across fully why the mortality rate is so high but we would assume humans have low immunity to bird flu and as you've seen the symptoms can be life threatening
