The dismal conditions we face today are the very conditions that lead to a new roaring bull market; always have, always will. Bull markets are born out of recessions, and all bear markets lead to new bull markets.
Your job is to wait patiently and remain disciplined. Your job is to ignore the pundits and conventional wisdom. Why? Because conventional wisdom produces conventional returns.
Your job is to muster up the courage to be exceptional. Admittedly, being exceptional is not easy. That's what makes it so rewarding and rare. Your job is to survive the bear market, not defeat it. Your job is to survive that little voice in the back of your head that wants you to take the easy way out; to throw in the towel... to blame and make excuses.
But if you quit when the going gets tough. If you fall prey to your emotions and the good opinion of others (most of who never attained massive success in the stock market), you'll be nothing more than another trader with bad beat stories that didn't exploit the one thing you had complete control of... choice. You will fail to prepare and you will not be in position - ready and able - for the next great opportunity, simply because you failed to believe in yourself.
Without a doubt, as always, a great opportunity will emerge in the stock market. And without a doubt, those who are best prepared for it will make a fortune. The proverbial radio will keep on playing. The only question is... what channel will you be tuned into?

1-"Breakout" past the Aug high of 334.42 could get sold into given magnitude of rally to get there

2- Measured move implies 338.50

Focus on the stocks not the averages here. More stocks should show up if this rally broadens. Focus on stocks that beat, raise numbers, go up 10% in price with volume up 300% that trade at new highs. Those will be the leaders. The New High List is the Buy List.
