@AlexTaylorNews @BBCNewsnight That is hardly the point. These mass invasions will become more common and every time some will stay (48,000 out of 60,000 is not ‘practically all’ returned). Plus the invasion itself would have been terrifying and cost people their livelihoods.

@cicerorocks @toadmeister @spectator Someone lied their way to a top academic position at one of our top universities. That is fraud - as they have been paid for a job they are unqualified for and, on a wider scale, it is demonstrative of an issue with DEI.

His tax bill might be - coincidentally - the same as the given value of the medal, but he isn’t paying for the medal, he is paying tax on the estate value over the nil rate band. Ditto when he passes it on. Or he could gift it during his life and pay CGT.

@DominicFarrell Such a good point. I feel the same about women-only shortlists etc. I want equality so people know I got where I am on merit, not because I’m female and was filling a quota. DEI robs the competent of that status and reduces everyone to boxes.

@KiszelyPhilip Also ‘challenges we can’t even begin to imagine’ - how does she know and generalise about that? Unfortunately, many people have experience of cancer both personally and within the family. Her point may be valid but the delivery completely supercedes it.
