Fantastic read on No Other Land by @maryturfah — this is not to harp on this documentary, but consider the power dynamics & the specific reason why this documentary has gotten the praise that it has. This is a question of whose humanity is taken into consideration & to what end.
I'm quite happy with my social media sweeps. I realized that my feed is back on news, arts, films, and politics. Just clean, things happened and that happened. Now I just need to be completely offline and go back to visiting random websites.
Membaca & berilmu kena disulam keikhlasan -- omputeh kata intellectual honesty. ertinya kita tahu takat mana yg kita tahu, rendah diri tentang apa yg tak tahu, terbuka untuk ubah pandangan bila dapat ilmu baru, kenalpasti apa blindspot kita & cuba fahami perspektif pihak lain

So how much have we looked out today? Learned from others? Traversing beyond the surface? And how much have we thought of ourselves and our self within this experience? Do this, and do this often. Reflect and relearn. This is what will save us <3
So I thought of these people I'd been speaking with a lot. Most pains came from their community. It feels like the curse of being in a familiar place, you're raised in a homogenous space, so you're expected to stay put. To not ask yourself questions. Even when you're hurt.
I think about this discomfort a lot, about being Malaysian, about having your sense of self ebbs and flows with the reality of others, and how this is part and parcel of resilience, self and community-wise––and how all of that is beautiful.
