🇨🇦 MONTREAL, CANADA: New details continue to emerge regarding Monday's major security incident in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges district, which triggered a province-wide emergency alert, a massive police response, and widespread shelter-in-place orders.

According to Canadian media reports, two police officers and one civilian were injured during the incident. Authorities later confirmed that the suspect was neutralized following an exchange of gunfire.

Reports citing police sources indicate the shooting appears to have been premeditated. The suspect reportedly placed the 911 call that drew officers to the scene before opening fire on the first responding police officers from a hotel room window.

Investigators reportedly recovered a long gun, a tripod, and a scope from the room. Additional weapons were reportedly found on the suspect, who was said to be wearing camouflage clothing and an ammunition belt.

The incident prompted a large-scale police operation, including helicopters, tactical units, a major security perimeter, and a province-wide emergency alert warning residents about an armed and dangerous suspect.

📍 Early reports circulating within Montreal's Jewish community raised concerns that the incident may have been connected to nearby Jewish institutions or businesses. However, information emerging from sources on the ground and current reporting indicates the shooting does not presently appear to have been directed at the Jewish community.

A major Jewish institution and several Jewish businesses were located within the immediate vicinity of the incident, but there are currently no indications that they were targeted. Sources familiar with the area note that the suspect did not enter nearby Jewish establishments despite opportunities to do so.
