From our friend Filippo Ulivieri here’s some new pictures of Kubrick taken in a bar in 1964 by a chilean journalist. I wonder if it’s the same Trader Vic’s (a favourite of his in NY) where he met for the first time Arthur C. Clarke on April 22, 1964.

@la_riviere The guy who answered “what if nobody changed the date in the calendar for 40 years” was funny though! Anyway I understand your pain: there is often confusion on which year “2001: A Space Odyssey is set” too! 😂
Sixty years ago today, some minutes after 7 AM, Judy Keirn showed up at the gates of MGM Borehamwood, London. She was the first actress/actor to appear in “2001: A Space Odyssey”, that officially started principal production on December 17, 1965. (1/X)
@alamofilmguy@RealEOC Actually Kubrick had already given this explanation in interviews at he time of the release of the movie. Also the book had pretty much explained everything
Hugyfot Hasselblad 500C underwater camera housing is a real found item repurposed by Kubrick as the Tycho excavation moon camera. Rumour has it that this was Clarke's personal camera he took diving back home in Ceylon (Sir Lanka) https://t.co/A5euYtDbBu
Some new outstanding pictures from the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey, taken by Keith Hamshere, are to be auctioned at @propstore_com auction: https://t.co/UOHN1krV6M
Did you know that #stanleykubrick sued the producers of Space: 1999? And that, intriguely, one reason was a possible TV series based on #2001aspaceodyssey? 1/2
The great Robert Shaw (actor and writer, best known as Quint in “Jaws”) passed away on this day in 1978. Did you know that in February 1965 Kubrick asked him to play an ape-man in #2001aspaceodyssey? Read about it here: https://t.co/G3as0cXuGo
A few years later Kubrick revealed that the picture was not as spontaneous as it seemed: it took him a while to make the newsagent look “suitably despondent”.
The first concept drawing of 2001’s Starchild was done in early 1967 by artist Dorothy Dealtry, mother of make-up maestro Colin Arthur. Later Liz Moore created a clay sculpture based on Keir Dullea’s features, which was the basis for the final fiberglass model.
