Por primera vez un guatemalteco gana el Premio de Literaturas Indígenas de América (PLIA): Wingston González rompe 13 años de hegemonía mexicana escribiendo en garífuna

✍️🏽El poeta garífuna guatemalteco Wingston Oswaldo González Reyes (Livingston, 1986) ganó la XIV edición del PLIA con su obra Yágütaguarügü / Un poquito más allá. Es la primera vez que un guatemalteco y autor no mexicano obtiene el galardón en 14 años.

La obra, escrita en garífuna, idioma afro-arawak hablado en las costas de Guatemala, Belice, Honduras y el Caribe y en la diáspora en Houston, California y Nueva York, fue elegida por unanimidad entre 69 obras de 22 lenguas indígenas de 9 países. El jurado destacó su "poesía estéticamente lograda con ritmos propios".

González narra la odisea garífuna desde su expulsión de la isla de San Vicente y las Granadinas hasta su arraigo transnacional en Centroamérica, entrelazando historia, espiritualidad, oralidad y cosmovisión.

El triunfo es un acto de resistencia lingüística. El garífuna, sostenido por la oralidad, está en retroceso. González, escritor transdisciplinario de poesía, performance y traducción, lo pone en el centro del continente.
