I rarely step into the fray like this. Most days I’d rather explore the deeper currents of what AI actually means for human potential. But when I see the conversation around Anthropic’s ban of OpenClaw framed as “fare dodging,” I realize some things need to be said plainly.

The true moat in AI has never been the model weights, the pricing tiers, or the rate limits. It is something far more fundamental: a deep, genuine understanding that open source paired with a thriving, technically sophisticated community is THE MOAT.

When developers finally build something that lets power users and agents actually use your models at scale — instead of treating them like thieves in the night — and your response is to ban the tool, that is not protection. That is self-inflicted blindness.

I have spent years mapping out the real pathways to sustainably monetize AI in ways that align incentives for everyone: creators, users, developers, and the company itself.

Those frameworks exist. They are not the tired 2010 SaaS playbook dressed up in new clothes. And I will not be handing them over for free to billion-dollar companies still operating with this level of low-resolution, short-term thinking.

This is not personal. This is tough love for the American AI industry.

If we keep choosing margin protection over ecosystem velocity, if we keep treating the community that actually builds the future as the enemy instead of the moat, we are not just slowing down… we are systematically handing China the generational advantage they already know how to seize.

The community is the moat.
Everything else is temporary.

To them: Stop employing the wrong frameworks.

Get a real open-source plan.
