u can’t sell houses u don’t own
u can’t sell cars u don’t own
but
u *can* sell stock u don’t own!?
this is bs – shorting is a scam
legal only for vestigial reasons
re: GameStop
It’s amazing how quickly regulators & platforms stop “manipulation” by average folks with smartphones, WiFi & a few bucks — but they can’t find it in themselves to hold the big banks accountable for the same Wall Street manipulation that actually ruins lives. 🤔
I am happy to work with Republicans on this issue where there’s common ground, but you almost had me murdered 3 weeks ago so you can sit this one out.
Happy to work w/ almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed.
In the meantime if you want to help, you can resign.
But you couldn’t buy anything period. They forced the price to crash so hedgefunds could cover their shorts. There will need to be a full investigation into the events of today. Phone records, surveillance, the works.
This is unacceptable.
We now need to know more about @RobinhoodApp’s decision to block retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit.
As a member of the Financial Services Cmte, I’d support a hearing if necessary.
Inquiries into freezes should not be limited solely to Robinhood.
This is a serious matter. Committee investigators should examine any retail services freezing stock purchases in the course of potential investigations - especially those allowing sales, but freezing purchases.
Yes @aoc. We need an investigation into RobinhoodApp’s decision and who influenced that. And this shows the need for a financial transaction tax on hedge fund shorting and SEC regulations on short selling practices.
I’ll be hopping on Twitch at 8:30pm tonight to discuss today’s developments with GameStop and retail trading. 👾 Might have a guest or two join - we’ll see.
See you there!
Let me start by saying I HOPE this isn’t real. But if it is... We’re talking about an abuse of power that’s truly beyond belief. This is criminal. And it’s something that BOTH sides of the aisle agree on.
I'm assuming that the next time a hedge fund starts to make too much money shorting and destroying a business, that they will be de-platformed from their Blomberg terminal and throttled by their prime broker in the name of orderly markets and consumer protection.
Personal news:
I’ve started a fund to incubate and invest in early stage startups with my friend @robinchan.
We called it @Goat_Capital because we believe the goat is a hardy animal that exemplifies the qualities of good founders.
