Annie Kenney lost a finger in a cotton mill before she turned twenty. Her file from Holloway prison records her starving herself to the edge of death to get votes for women. As she said to the judge: "if it means I will have to die to get the vote, then I will die.'
On behalf of all of us: thank you, Annie! Read more below 👇

We've begun the complex operation of removing damaged trains and carriages from the railway, to allow engineers to assess the damage and complete necessary repairs.
Mark Budden, East Midlands route director, explains the work involved:

Still grinning from ear to ear after last night’s Serse. Such a pity that it was a one-off event, I could see it more times than Caroline of Ansbach went to Orlando! Despite being a concert performance, the singers, especially the 5 fabulous women, were very much in character.
I think this is spot on, from Rachel Sylvester:
"I think the real problem was more profound. Starmer could never properly explain why he wanted to be prime minister. In fact it was always unclear whether he really knew himself."

Loved this Serse last night 😍 Our third consecutive weekend Handel, after Orlando at Longborough and Agrippina at Rouen. All confirming that Handel was a bloody genius!! 👏👏👏
Light & shade: Laurence Cummings, Academy of Ancient Music & a terrific cast make Handel's Serse into a captivating & engaging evening in the theatre with Paula Murrihy, Louise Alder, Rebecca Leggett. My opera review:

👏 Let whoever dare offend the king of kings be cut asunder and placed on both sides of the great road so that the army may march out between the two halves. 🤭
@TfL well. That's the second 214 bus that we have been chucked off TFL! We boarded at St Pancras and have only got as far as Angel Islington in almost an hour. 214 at bus stop did not wait for us who were alighting the terminating service 😡 Pitiful customer service 🙄
