Nine days is not a factory, Matt.
It is a meeting. Teams said ninety. Mark said nine. Everyone smiled. You called it aggression. I call it a calendar trick sold as industrial policy.

You love the deal. Fine. Russian aggression is real. People under drones are not a metaphor. Officials now put Canada’s assistance since 2022 past $26 billion, more than $8.5 billion of it military. That column exists. What does not exist is the page that puts that cheque next to the commercial drawer Ottawa keeps open with Beijing on the same week.

Canada is paying for interceptors. Beijing is running the till. Reuters, today, described how Iranian crude sold into China is converted into credits for Chinese goods, infrastructure, kit, and, sources say, air defence. China took more than 80 percent of Iran’s shipped crude in 2025. Russia pins inventories. Iran supplies oil and pressure. Beijing collects feedstock and a laboratory in sanctions evasion. They do not need a signed alliance. They have a division of labour. Our failure is a division of files.

You want that same “speed” for everything. Then look at the register, not the podium.
The CAF inventory is about 2,000 drones of all types. The new marketplace and first contracts are meant to multiply that. One-third of future production is pledged to Ukraine. That is a transfer of Canadian output before Canadian units have the stockpile a serious country would already own. Special processes for Kyiv. Normal processes for ourselves. You treated that contrast as a compliment. It is the confession.

Icebreakers: a 2019 promise. First steel next fall. First ship 2032. Full replacement fleet 2038. They replace aging hulls. They do not enlarge the fleet this winter.
Gull Island is still targeted for 2036–37. Definitive contracts are not even due until March 2027. A photograph and a federal guarantee are not megawatts.
Housing, corridors, title finality, interprovincial barriers priced like a self-imposed tariff, business investment per worker down from nearly 90 cents on the American dollar in 2007 to 54 cents by 2024, labour-productivity growth 26.7 percent here versus 67.9 percent in the United States from 1999 to 2025. Those files do not get the nine-day treatment. They get process.

The “100-year partnership” is political language. The UK version already carried a six-month termination clause. Ours is explicit that it is not a self-executing legal straitjacket. Calling a non-binding declaration a century is Carney theatre. Architecture first. Steel later. Rooms first. Register later.
I am not isolationist. Alliances built on reciprocity matter after we rebuild domestic strength. Speed for export drones while the Arctic fleet, the grid, the mines, and the housing stock sit behind stacked reviews is not sovereignty. It is a presser.
Close the drawers. Put the Ukraine outlay, the China opening, Iranian oil settlement, and dual-use leakage on one cabinet page in the same week. Then tell me what the partnership is worth.

Production before process.

Capacity before jurisdiction.

Evidence before narrative.

Citizens first.

Canada first.
