🟡When we say the entire Budget is anti-people, this is what we mean.
⛔️The cost of fuel is going to go up because the fuel levy has been increased.
⛔️The cost of a basic passport has gone up in USD terms to $200. Passports in the rest of SADC cost an average $20.
⛔️Tollgate fees will go up from $2 to $5 for light motor vehicles. A person traveling between Harare and Bulawayo return will have to pay at least $50 in toll fees. This will increase bus fares and the cost of travel.
⛔️Vehicle registration fees have gone up to between $100 to $500 depending on engine capacity.
⛔️A sugar tax has been imposed on fizzy drinks.
⛔️Persons owning a home worth more than $100,000 will be subjected to an illegal double tax (“wealth tax) despite the fact that the majority of them have no income. This will cover pensioners under 70 with no income and persons who lost their jobs and savings after the economy crashed who have no stable income.
⛔️Small businesses earning as little as $25,000 per annum will have to register for VAT. This will increase the cost of their goods and reduce demand.
⛔️The tax free threshold comes to less than $100 in real terms. This means workers earning the lowest wages will be subjected to tax by a scavenging Treasury. The consumer basket for a family of 6 is over $300. Persons earning less than minimum wage will be taxed.
⛔️Those importing “high value” ($120,000 and above) vehicles will be subjected to a surcharge of between 30% and 50%. With little vehicle manufacturing happening locally, the cost of cars will go up.
⛔️The corporate income tax rate has been increased from 24% to 25%.
⛔️Multi-national companies will have to pay a new “top-up tax” which will repel foreign investment.
⛔️All these taxes have gone up in USD because they have no faith in the Zim Dollar. However, allocations to Ministries for public services including public health, public education and social welfare have been denominated in the worthless Zim Dollar. The figures will be meaningless within a couple of months. The Minister’s estimates bear no relation to what will actually be allocated. It’s a lottery’s.
The punitive measures leave no person and no place behind. The whole budget is anti-people. The economy is broken.
It’s a mess.
We need new leaders.🇿🇼
