Town of New Tecumseth Introduces First-Ever Full-Time Fire Crew
New Tecumseth, ON – The Town of New Tecumseth is proud to announce a significant milestone in the history of New Tecumseth Fire Rescue: the introduction of the department's first-ever full-time fire crew.
The new staffing model represents a major advancement in the delivery of emergency services and reflects the Town's ongoing commitment to public safety and service excellence. By transitioning to a composite staffing model and adding a dedicated full-time crew, New Tecumseth Fire Rescue is enhancing response times, strengthening daytime emergency coverage, and increasing its capacity to serve residents when they need assistance most.
“This milestone reflects our Council's commitment to investing in public safety and preparing for the future needs of our growing community,” said Mayor Richard Norcross.
“Welcoming New Tecumseth Fire Rescue's first full-time crew is a proud moment for our municipality and demonstrates our ongoing dedication to protecting residents, supporting our firefighters, and building a stronger, more resilient community for generations to come.”
The full-time crew will be temporarily based at Station 1 while construction and occupancy of Station 4 are completed.
During this period, crew members will support emergency response operations, participate in training and professional development, and engage in community safety and public education initiatives throughout New Tecumseth.
The introduction of the full-time crew is the result of years of planning, collaboration, and strategic investment aimed at building a stronger and more resilient fire service.
As the community continues to grow, the department remains focused on providing responsive, reliable, and effective emergency services to residents.

UPDATE: Driver who claimed his Tesla Autopilot sent him barreling into a grandmother's home has been charged after data shows he manually overrode the feature.
Michael Butler, 44, sent his Tesla 70 MPH into the home of Martha Ávila, 76, killing her as she was trying to put away groceries.
Butler claimed his autopilot malfunctioned, but Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s head of AI, found that he floored the accelerator pedal and overrode the self-driving feature.
“In this case, the driver manually overrode self-driving by pressing the accelerator all the way to 100% of the accel pedal in this residential area... They reached a speed of 73 mph during the crash, and had the accelerator pressed even after the crash.”
Butler was charged with manslaughter and is being sued by the family of Ávila.
