If you are making direct allegations against Dhruv Rathee, the responsible course is to substantiate them with evidence and, if a cognisable offence is disclosed, approach the police and file an FIR. Disagreement, criticism, or personal dislike cannot replace evidence.

It is no secret that he faces intense criticism from sections of the ruling establishment’s supporters, including some self-proclaimed nationalist voices and a few employed veterans. But raising uncomfortable questions, taking a principled stand, and speaking truth to power require courage not conformity.

Look at the Agnipath controversy. Many senior and General-equivalent officers remained conspicuously silent, even when they had platforms to express their views publicly. That silence itself raises uncomfortable questions about institutional courage and moral responsibility.

What is even more alarming is the growing culture of “My Way or the Highway,” yes-men, and promotions that appear to reward conformity over independent thought. As veterans, we must reflect seriously on how this culture is affecting our military ethos, traditions, institutional integrity, and the very character of leadership we once pledged to uphold.

Our responsibility as veterans is to remain politically neutral, not politically selective. We must apply the same standards to every political party and government, irrespective of who is in power.

I openly appreciated the abrogation of Article 370. But that appreciation does not mean giving any government a blank cheque or remaining silent when allegations of corruption arise, or when people facing serious criminal allegations are elevated to positions of power. Every allegation must be examined fairly, and accountability must apply equally to all.

At least, Dhruv Rathee is raising questions and bringing alleged wrongdoing into public discussion. Instead of blindly dismissing him as anti-national, why not examine the evidence, challenge his claims with facts, and expose any inaccuracies through reasoned arguments?

Labelling someone anti-national merely because their views challenge those in power is not patriotism; it is an attempt to shut down scrutiny. Equally, supporting someone blindly is no substitute for independent judgment.

As veterans, we should defend principles, not personalities; demand evidence, not indulge in trolling; and question power, irrespective of who wields it.

A uniform may be taken off, but the courage to speak against injustice, the integrity to remain impartial, and the responsibility to put the nation above political loyalties must never be retired.
