Why has this flawed book gotten so popular again after like 20 years?

I don't know which YouTuber is responsible for this, but people mostly use it to justify their dislike of "modern" otaku art.

Otaku Studies are a real area of rapidly developing academic research in Japan.

@urqueh Current scholarship usually regards database consumption (modular character design, trope recognition etc) as one mechanism among many instead of a complete description of "animalized" otaku physiology & recognizes there is still characterization present in fragmentary narratives

What did you expect? In games like imas the characters are treated as people within a larger context.

The idol industry is the subject and not just an aesthetic vehicle for celeb/fandom stuff, they show the characters being contradictory, manufactured, reduced to products, etc

@GAYBARDS He knows Japanese. In general the "point" of his posts is to make non Japanese speakers realize how bad most fan translations are and to make Japanese speakers defend AI because both the AI and human translation are flawed in many ways. One just took more time.
