WHY DID GOD WAKE ME UP THIS MORNING?

Because He wasn’t done with me.

That’s the part I keep coming back to.

I woke up this morning with breath in my lungs, blood runnin’ through my veins, and another day laid in front of me.

And I know good and well everybody didn’t get that.

Somebody went to bed last night thinkin’ they had more time.

They didn’t.

Somebody left words unsaid.

Somebody stayed mad too long.

Somebody figured they’d call tomorrow.

Tomorrow never came.

But mine did.

So now I’ve got to decide what I’m gonna do with it.

Am I gonna waste it worryin’ about people who don’t like me?

Am I gonna carry around old grudges like they’re worth somethin’?

Am I gonna spend another day complainin’ about everything I don’t have while walkin’ straight past everything God already gave me?

Or am I gonna understand that this morning was mercy?

Maybe God woke me up because somebody needs to hear from me.

Maybe somebody needs to know they ain’t forgotten.

Maybe somebody needs a meal.

Maybe somebody needs a prayer.

Maybe somebody needs me to quit judgin’ them long enough to love them.

Maybe there’s somebody out there hangin’ by a thread, and one kind word could keep ’em from lettin’ go.

Maybe God woke me up because I still owe somebody an apology.

Maybe I still need to forgive somebody.

Maybe I still need to forgive myself.

Maybe He woke me up because I’ve spent too much time sayin’ “one day.”

One day I’ll change.

One day I’ll pray more.

One day I’ll tell ’em I love ’em.

One day I’ll get right with God.

One day I’ll stop livin’ like I’ve been promised forever.

Well, this is one day.

This is the one I got.

And I don’t want to throw it away.

Because one morning, God ain’t gonna wake me up here.

This body is gonna be still.

This house will be quiet.

The phone won’t need answerin’.

The bills won’t matter.

The grudges won’t matter.

The arguments won’t matter.

The opinions of people who never understood me won’t matter.

All that will matter is what I did with the time I was given.

So this morning, I’m not askin’ God to give me some big important purpose.

I’m askin’ Him to make me useful.

Make me kinder.

Make me braver.

Make me quieter when I need to hush.

Make me speak when somebody needs defendin’.

Make me notice people.

Make me stop walkin’ past hurt like I don’t see it.

Make me love people while I still can.

And Lord, if there’s somebody out there today wonderin’ if You still see them, use me to remind ’em.

You woke me up this morning.

That means I’ve still got time.

Time to love.

Time to fix something.

Time to pray.

Time to forgive.

Time to turn around.

Time to tell somebody about Jesus.

Time to become a little more like the person You’ve been tryin’ to make me all along.

So why did God wake me up this morning?

Maybe the better question is:

What am I gonna do with the fact that He did?

In District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes like self-defense.

Heller struck down D.C.'s handgun ban and confirmed that the right covers firearms in common use today, including semi-automatic rifles and pistols owned by millions for self-defense and other lawful purposes. It also made clear that "bear" means carrying outside the home.

Virginia's SB 727 bans carrying many of these common semi-automatic center-fire rifles, pistols, and shotguns (called "assault firearms" in the bill) on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way, park, or other place open to the public statewide, even unloaded in a vehicle. Violation is a Class 1 misdemeanor.

This directly conflicts with Heller by criminalizing possession and transport of common arms in public, burdening the right to bear arms without historical justification (especially under the 2022 Bruen test building on Heller). McDonald v. Chicago (2010) made Heller apply to states like Virginia.

If signed, SB 727 faces strong lawsuits and is likely unconstitutional. @NRA
