You can only change or remove a child’s name on a birth certificate if they’re under 2.

After that? Deed Poll, both biological parents’ consent (or a court order), and publication in the Kenya Gazette.

A parent’s name stays. No removing it just because the relationship ended.

I get breakups are messy, but why rewrite a child’s name the second things fall apart? It pulls the kid straight into adult drama.

I’m all for the dual-consent rule. A child’s identity isn’t something to change lightly.

Yet people still talk about names being changed on the ground with zero paperwork and no second parent involved which raises many questions
