The answer is pharmacy reimbursements. One vaccine is reimbursed 30x more than one prescription. This is why you walk into a pharmacy and have to wait so long. The prescription reimbursements are so low that the pharmacies cut staffing to stay profitable. I often have one tech typing prescriptions, fixing insurance issues, and then also running 3 registers all at thr same time. If a vaccine patient comes in, we are expected to drop everything and try to give that one patient even more vaccines than they initially wanted. 4 per patient is the goal because of the 30x profit level.
Our Congressman and women destroyed pharmacy reimbursements in the early 90’s, but their pocket books and Big Pharma pockets are full.
