@JimmySteier @HenryGJeffreys I think that's because "eau" is only one sound, so without the context that "de l'eau" provides, it could be anything. It's also only a vowel, which I think are what most English speakers struggle with in French. It tends to sound more like "owww" than a short "o".

So yeah the comparison is hard, but in the US, prices *can* be higher because there are enough people who'll pay them. The poorest just have it harder...

Arguably, people in Manhattan are richer in their country than Parisians, and the average is "pulled upwards" by ultra rich people in the US. Still, these numbers are incredibly3/4

@JEllulz she explained it poorly by saying "everyone knows the word", the word "stop" has been used as a loanword for centuries in French as well as many other languages, so the stop signs are not in English, they're just displaying a loanword
