Every year around Independence Day, I find myself drawn back to my hometown of Arthur, Illinois.
Population: about 2,200.
Like many small towns across America, it reminds me where many of our nation’s values begin.

As Gun Violence Awareness month ends and we begin Jaime's birthday month, we reflect on the past 8 1/2 years. It is so hard to believe that so much time has passed, yet time also feels as if it has stood still. Jaime is forever 14 while her friends have graduated from high school, college, and are now moving on in their adult lives. It remains impossible to explain the impact that gun violence has on everyone in the family affected and how far that impact reaches for all others who knew them or have simply followed along with their stories.
Please think about Jaime a little extra this month. Do something kind in her honor. Be a good person. As we have done the past few years, we will be providing "Blessing Bags" to those who are homeless or simply in need. The bags filled with snacks, drinks, and toiletries will include an inspirational note in hopes to lift someone's spirits, because that is what Jaime would have wanted. She understood that not everyone was as fortunate and she eagerly tried to help. We would love to see your comments and messages of what wonderful things are being done this month to bring hope and joy to others.
Please follow us on social media and check out our website at https://t.co/DYSuairrU7 to learn more about everything we have done to to keep Jaime's legacy alive, and all we continue to do. See less

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. - Galatians 2:20 NLT #VerseOfTheDay
Grief Is a Form of Patriotism, Too.
This 4th of July, many of us won't be waving flags or watching fireworks.
Not because we hate our country, but because we love it too much to pretend everything is fine.🧵
