This was extremely poor writing on Lucas's part but if you roll with it, it's actually hilarious. Imagine - you're Darth Vader, and one day a banged-up freighter flies into your doomsday station's hangar and it's carrying your son, your daughter, your astromech droid, the protocol droid you personally built as a child and your master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Everything rhymes; you can feel the inexorable tides of fate that reunited everyone at this moment; the Force is strong...
... except for the truck driver in the vest. But hey. Maybe even the Force isn't above taking an Uber to get everyone together instead of tracking down some Special Fated Person, right?
Yeah. Yeah that's what you said. "Nah. THAT one is coincidence," you said, and then the NEXT DAY he pops up in a souped up 18 wheeler and shoots you, one of the greatest fighter pilots in the galaxy, square in the ass before your snot-nosed kid blows your uberstation to hell and gone and now you're flying around trying to get a signal, knowing that there's gonna be one hell of a chat with Palpatine once you do, and you're still wondering *who the hell was that fucker in the vest!?*
@DougTenNapel I think that even if youre right, scarcity isnt just a value measure in terms of price. What if AI produces endless perfection? Just cranking out materpiece after masterpiece as fast as it can be procrssed. What would that do to us existentially?
@SandyofCthulhu I am amazed at people who take an earnest, interesting observation and try to carve it up to fit their agenda. You aren't made fun of for believing in God, you're being made fun of for thinking you're on the righteous side of things. You hipocrasy IS the joke.
@elonmusk@paulg This is such a dumb move for a smart guy. You don't have to abandon that far left socialism is tyranny to acknowledge that Hitler was a right wing fascist. The "But he said! Its in the name!" is so childish that its comical and an serious indicator of mental deificiency
@1ssve Unless youre an alcoholic (which i am), drinking is largely social and the kids arent social. And they're hyperpoliced so there's no opportunity for discretely congregating in out of the way places to break rules.
@QiaochuYuan I think this is more correct than saying that anything can be reduced to simple terms. its like object oriented programming, a lot of terms do a lot of heavy lifting and many are domain specific. At best, a competant person can offer a good metaphor that lacks application power
