IPID investigates Mkhwanazi, KZN police commissioner, over alleged interference in arrest
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for allegedly interfering in the arrest of a senior Correctional Services official.
The incident, which allegedly took place in Richards Bay in 2023, has prompted IPID to request that Mkhwanazi submit a sworn statement by March 19, 2025.
The investigation follows an anonymous complaint from the public, although it should be noted that a letter from IPID's acting head of investigations, suggesting the investigation was initiated at the request of the police minister, was issued in error.
IPID has emphasized that, despite receiving tips from various sources, its investigations remain independent and impartial. While the investigation is still in its early stages, IPID has stated it will comment on the matter only once the probe is complete.
I’m excited about the launch of the EFF GBV Desk this month😭 (just after the launch of the EFF Labor Desk) I’m proud of myself for choosing to be a part of EFF. Our peers are struggling with making decisions of political affiliation. Pat yourself on the back if you’re a fighter.

I honestly wish our network services would do better at this time, where most communication is done virtually.
We pay such high data costs in this country and we are payed back with poor network. It can’t be!
