@KinaMagica@transgoblin0v0 Not necessarily true homophobia has its roots in the Qing Dynasty and the rule of Genghis Khan and even during the Maoist era homosexuality was seen as degeneracy of capitalist influences
@kawaijijong This trauma manifests itself in many ways, and the consumption and production of material you consider to be “wrong” can be tremendously helpful in digesting that trauma, processing it, and reinterpreting it into something less harmful to ourselves
@kawaijijong I’m a real victim of csam. Using the experiences that myself and other people like myself to justify your moral brigade against something you find wrong is significantly more insensitive and demonstrates a disregard for the trauma victims face
@yanleimei Danmei is considered its own unique subgenre because of the intersection between state censorship, digital activism/fandom culture, and authorship which is unique to the geopolitical sphere of mainland China. It had nothing to do with ethnicity
@Fescen_nine Ohhh I didn’t know that part. If it’s just Yiggys advertising then I hope it gets corrected. I’m a big fan of a larger distributor helping to promote indie projects but it is a little disappointing to see it handled like this
@Fescen_nine Also the book is completely inaccessible to people in mainland China even beyond language barriers. Calling it danmei when it’s not accessible to the core danmei audience feels weird to me
@Fescen_nine Authors in China are facing legal threats or in jail currently for writing danmei. Mixing that with the attitude towards Chinese/English translators and trying to throw her weight around as a “native” speaker just feels overall gross to me
@Mmandyy99 Idk it just feels disingenuous cause they’re almost presenting it as if it’s an indie author from China which feel icky to me when BL authors in China are so marginalized and censored
@Mmandyy99 Idk but the “Chinese author” part feels so disingenuous cause it feels like it’s just there to distract from the fact the the author is American and insinuate that people are just being racist but maybe I’m reading too much into it
@Reinhardt_LR@nian_gao_jing@orchid_orbits@NandaTianwen01 Also the shortening of “Ying” and “Dan” in the previous example is just how Chinese words are shortened. “ying” is only half of the word for Britain (英国)and Dan is half of the second word (耽美). It’s just short hand for 英国耽美
@Reinhardt_LR@nian_gao_jing@orchid_orbits@NandaTianwen01 Yes because danmei in English and 耽美 in Chinese mean two different things. In English danmei is used to refer to Chinese specific BL, while in Chinese 耽美 is interchangeable with BL. The English danmei is borrowed from 耽美 but they’re separate things. Like how yaoi is used
